GALENA–Negotiations between the Galena School Board and the Galena Federation of Teachers are at a bit of a standstill.

Although the contract between the board and teachers’ union was on the Tuesday, Nov. 17 agenda for possible approval, board president Chuck Korte announced in open session that the teachers union opted not to ratify the tentative agreement during a meeting Friday, Nov. 13.

Later in the meeting the board convened in closed session with collective bargaining matters as one of the reasons listed.

No action resulted from closed session.

Korte said following the meeting that he couldn’t say much about the situation but he did confirm that no further negotiation meetings have yet been set. He assumes that will take place the week after Thanksgiving.

The 2012-2015 contract between the GFT and the board expired in August.
