SCALES MOUND-Following a public hearing, members of the Scales Mound School Board approved the district's 2014 budget of $4,506,928 during the board's regular monthly meeting Monday, Aug. 19.

According to Superintendent Steve Bianchetta, although the budgeted amount of expenditures is $4,506,928, he anticipates actual expenditures will be less, as there are contingency expenses in the budget district officials do not anticipate spending. Last year's budgeted expenses were $4,409,660.

Two funds have expenditures that exceed revenues, Bianchetta explained. The budget for the capital or sales tax fund and tort fund are both in the red.

The capital fund has expenses budgeted in which revenue was collected last fiscal year, and the tort fund has contingency expenses in case the district has to defend itself in court.
In other business, the board:

•approved additional FFA activities for the 2013-14 school year.

•approved a tuition reimbursement request from Lisa Oellerich and Sara Wentz.

•accepted a donation of a scorer's table from the Cleland Winter family.
