Around 100 Elizabeth High School alumni sang their school song, reminisced, and crowned a king and queen at a gathering at Cajun Jack’s on Saturday, July 23. Margaret Wurster (Class of 1951) and Stan Backenkeller (Class of 1962) served as Queen and King. Julie Wilson Nesbitt traveled the farthest, coming from the Seattle, Wash. area. This event has become an annual summer must-do for all Terrapins.

The annual Slick & Easy Golf benefit was held Saturday, July 29 at the Galena Golf Course. The crew pictured here, (L-R) Nanette Glasgow, Wendy Einsweiler, Sue Minter, Tammy Stephensen and Bruce Glasgow, worked as a team putting together all the components necessary to hold the event. They did an excellent job breaking several records of participation with 36 teams comprised of 144 golfers, 56 hole sponsors and an enormous number of silent auction items. This year’s proceeds will be shared between Galena area McIntyre and Berning families: Katie McIntyre, a Galena High School Drivers Education and Health teacher suffering from Acute Myeloid Leukemia and Beth Berning, a sixth-grade teacher at Drexler Middle School, Farley, Iowa, diagnosed with stage IV colon cancer.
