Professional wood sculptor Marie McDonough taught students the art of wood sculpting. Each student sanded and decorated their own bird with wood burnings, stain, paint and glass eyes. GALENA–Clifford “Cliff” Davenport was no stranger to responsibility and certainly not an outsider to the community. Beginning work at the Illinois Bell Telephone Company in 1941, he would later establish dial phone service for Galena, a groundbreaking change that would subsequently allow Galena’s methods of communication and technology to advance to modernity.
