The Dominican Sisters of Sinsinawa will be holding one additional “Art, Antiques, and Furniture Sale” in the main foyer at Sinsinawa Mound from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 29. Items for purchase include antique, craftsman, and modern furniture; fine art; religious art and statues; art pottery; trunks; clocks; desks; bookshelves; a 1960’s Gibson steel string guitar; and more. Items can be paid for in the Sinsinawa Book and Gift Gallery. Products from Sinsinawa Bakery will also be available during the sale. All items must be taken the day of purchase. Photos of some of the sale items can be viewed on their Facebook page in the days leading up to the event at www.facebook.com/sinsinawa. “Since many of our Sisters have moved away from the Mound and we will no longer be occupying all the building space, we have some ‘hidden gems’ that we no longer have a use for here. We would love to see these items go to good homes to be enjoyed by others,” said Sinsinawa Dominican Promoter of Arts and Cultural Heritage Sister Priscilla Wood, OP. “Some of our sale items date back to the furnishing of the convent in the 1880s.” To learn more about the congregation’s 176-year history in the tristate area, visit www.sinsinawa.org. It seems like more and more people these days start preparing for Christmas early with stores setting out Christmas decorations before Halloween and streaming services already releasing holiday content. This year, it seems like even the weather is following this trend. While the people of Galena prepared for Halloween, they were greeted by snow on the morning of Oct. 31. Left: The snow stuck to some grass and structures in town but didn’t really stick on the ground besides that. This snowfall comes after a few flakes fell on the morning of Oct. 29. Right: Snow was able to accumulate on a few structures like these stairs.
