GALENA-Galena Middle School and Galena Primary Schools chose Students of the Month for September recently. They are Carlos Luna Guerrero, sixth grade and Samantha Anderson, second grade.
Students are nominated by their teacher for showing excellent character traits accented in the program-trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring and citizenship.

Carlos Luna Guerrero, sixth grade
"Carlos was nominated by his teachers because he is a respectful and caring student. He respects his classmates and his teachers and can always be counted on to set a good example. He is always willing to help and does so without even being asked. Carlos shows he cares for others by being a good friend and including everyone in group activities. Responsibility is another strong character trait Carlos exhibits. He always has his work done to the very best of his ability and on time."
Samantha Anderson, second grade
What her teacher, Sara Feyen, said: "Samantha demonstrates each of the Character Counts Pillars on a daily basis. She is a great citizen of GPS and one that I am proud to have in my homeroom. She is a very responsible child that completes all work on time, gets her assignment notebook signed each night, and always comes prepared to class each day. Samantha is also very respectful through the use of her manners. I always hear the words please, thank you and no thanks coming from her. She often sets a positive example for the other students to follow. When they hear her using these kind manner words, they will often remember to use them. Not only does she demonstrate positive manners and behaviors, but Samantha also reaches above and beyond to help other students out.
"If she sees a student struggling with something, either in the classroom or out on the playground, she will either come to me and let me know or she will step up to the plate and help the other student out if she is able to do so. Samantha is a student who is always willing to step ahead and do more than what is expected of her. She reaches for the stars and continues to grow through her experiences, while continuing to keep her grades up, complete all her work, demonstrate each Character Count Pillar, makes others happy, and she can do all of this with a smile on her face. I am very proud of her and I feel that Samantha would make a wonderful role-model for others as our September Student of the Month."
