Fight childhood hunger
Fried Green Tomatoes taking part in Great American Dine Out

GALENA-This year alone, one in every six children will worry about where their next meal will come. That's a total of more than 12 million at-risk kids who are undernourished or starving across the United States.

On Sept. 20-26, Fried Green Tomatoes will join a national effort, The Great American Dine Out, led by "Share Our Strength" in partnership with the Food Network, OpenTable.com and many other corporate sponsors to help end childhood hunger. How can you help? It's easy. Eat out.

Dine at Fried Green Tomatoes during the Great American Dine Out and Galena's local resource-The United Churches of Galena Food Pantry-will receive one percent of the restaurant's receipts. In addition to a one percent donation, Fried Green Tomatoes will be offering additional incentives that will benefit the food pantry.

Assisting Fried Green Tomatoes in this second annual effort are more than 5,000 restaurants throughout the 50 states. Donations received nation-wide help connect families in need with nutritious food by: increasing participation in school food and nutrition programs, increasing the number of community gardens, supporting food banks and food pantries, increasing access to fresh produce, and increasing utilization of federal child food and nutrition programs such as food stamps and school breakfasts, and providing advocacy around child food and nutrition-related programs.

"Hunger is a feeling no child should have to endure," said Aaron McCargo, Jr., Food Network star and spokesperson for the Great American Dine Out.

Fried Green Tomatoes is located at 213 North Main Street in Galena and specializes in Italian and American cuisine. Visit friedgreen.com.
