JO DAVIESS COUNTY-Two of the biggest industries in Jo Daviess County are coming together: farming and tourism. The Jo Daviess County Convention & Visitor's Bureau (CVB) and Jo Daviess County Farm Bureau are planning a day-long retreat on Monday, Aug. 9 at Oak Hill Weddings in Apple River.

Dorian Dickinson, from the CVB's marketing firm Sota Venture, explained to the county board last week that the Farm Bureau and the CVB are in the initial planning stages for a comprehensive agritourism program for Jo Daviess County. Dickinson said the groups met with the Illinois Farm Bureau, and the American Farm Bureau Federation. Officials from the national organization noted the plan "is the first time, anywhere, in America, they've seen the CVB and the farm bureaus work together to form an agritourism program," Dickinson said. There are millions in agritourism grants available. Officials hope to tap into that. CVB Board and staff members, as well as Farm Bureau members, will facilitate small group discussion, which will consider an agritourism program's structure.
