On July 4, at approximately 1:29 p.m., the Jo Daviess County Sheriff’s Office 911 Dispatch Center received a 911 call reporting a one vehicle traffic crash with injuries. The crash occurred near the intersection of North Main Street and East Myrtle Street, Elizabeth. According to Jo Daviess County Sheriff Kevin Turner, the driver of the vehicle, Daniel K. Edler, 78, Cedarville, was parked in front of the Welcome Inn. He crossed through the intersection, drove behind the veterans memorial, striking a street sign and then colliding with a house. The Elizabeth Ambulance transported Edler to Midwest Medical Center. He was then transferred to the University of Iowa Hospital. The passenger in the vehicle, Roberta O. Edler, 77, Cedarville, was transported by Elizabeth Ambulance to Mercy Medical Center, Dubuque, Iowa. She was later transferred to University of Iowa Hospital.
The crash remains under investigation. The Elizabeth Fire Department assisted.
