ELIZABETH– Elizabeth nursing home board members made an uneasy decision on March 19 to close the nursing home facility after 51 years of service, effective the week of April 20. Shortages of qualified nursing and CNA staff is the reason for the closure and not being able to find individuals to fill their open positions. The Grand View Estates Assisted Living Facility will remain open.
“We are not alone; this is an issue that is affecting all health care,” read a statement from the nursing home.
Officials are in contact with the Illinois Department of Public Health for direction for closing the nursing home. Staff have reached out to other local facilities for their residents.
The statement said, “We will continue to provide exceptional care for our residents in this transition, while creating new bonds with other local facilities for residential care.”
