The Fourth of July will be fun-filled in Galena. Events get underway Tuesday morning at 8 a.m. with the Buckhill Run and the chalk walk. Both start from Recreation Park.

Following the run and walk, the Galena ARC has a variety of activities planned throughout the day at Recreation Park. There will be food, music and games for all ages.

By late afternoon, the fun moves downtown to the Green Street Plaza. The community band will perform a concert beginning at 4 p.m.

The G.O.A.T.S. cycling club will start serving food and beverages at 3 p.m. and that will run until the fireworks at dusk from Grant Park.

The Kiwanis Club of Galena’s annual parade will make its way down Main Street at 6 p.m., followed by a street dance featuring Ten Gallon Hat, also at the Green Street Plaza.

 

Hanover

The Hanover Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with the village of Hanover, community members and local businesses/organizations, is planning the 2018 Hanover Days Celebration.

Hanover’s favorite hometown tradition kicks off on Tuesday, July 3 with Hanover’s VFW, 102 Fillmore Street, will be hosting a beef roast starting at 4:30 p.m.

The Hanover Days parade line-up is at 5:30 p.m. at the Hanover Township Park District’s (old school building) parking lot on the corner of Fillmore and Ill. 84 South. Past supporters and newcomers are welcome. Entries can be emailed to hanoverilchamber@gmail.com or call 815-591-2229. The theme is “Celebrating the Illinois Bicentennial.”

An antique car show will take place at 6:30 p.m. at the factory lot next to Whistling Wings.

After the parade, head over to White Park on Monroe Street to hear the winners of “Patriotic Porches” and button raffle announced and watch the canoe race on the Apple River. Patriot Porches winners will be announced at 6:45 p.m. Patriotic Porches is an opportunity for Hanover residents to show off their patriotic pride by decorating their yards, front porches or business windows.

Registration for the canoe race begins at 6:45 p.m. Contact Jeff Sullivan at 309-236-7890 to enter. Canoes and equipment are available to rent. Canoes are provided by Fever River Outfitters (on-site). The race starts at 7:30 p.m.

Fireworks will be set off at dusk on the hillside between the VFW Club and factory. After the fireworks, the band 2nd Generation is playing at the VFW Club.

Wake up July 4 and head to the VFW Ladies Auxiliary Pancake Breakfast which is served from 8-11 a.m.

The Hanover High School Alumni Reunion will be held Saturday, July 7 at the Hanover Township Park District facility. Dinner is at 5 p.m. and the program at 7 p.m.

 

Stockton

Stockton Memorial Park will be the site for Stockton July 4 festivities again this year.

The day starts with a three-on-three basketball tournament in the school gyms. Divisions range from boys and girls entering fifth grade all the way through high school seniors and adults.

When not watching basketball, guests have more than enough to keep them busy. Roam the more than 70 vendor booths set up in the park. Vendors feature everything from crafts to baked goods to home products. The Lions Club chicken dinner is also tradition with over 3,000 chicken halves served.

Other activities include bingo, bounce houses, a kiddie tractor pull, music and live entertainment. Medicinal Purposes plays from 5-9 pm. There is also a classic car show on West Maple Avenue. Fireworks will light up the sky at dusk.
