Thomas Loftus

NAPLES, Fla–Thomas James Loftus, 80, Galena, and Naples, Fla., passed away on May 7, 2022.

Tom was born on Sept. 25, 1941, to James and Eileen Loftus in Chicago.

After graduating from Leo High School in 1958, he went on to study business at Northern Illinois University.

He landed his first job at United Airlines and moved on to work in finance for 40+ years.

In grade school, he met Charlene (Heckert) Loftus. They wed quite a few years later in 1963, going on to have four children, Michael, Thomas, Daniel and Timothy. Tom instilled in his family the love of sports, especially the White Sox, which was then also passed down to his eight grandchildren. His family meant more to him than anything else in the world. He enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren in both Galena and Naples.

Tom was also an avid reader, enjoying golf and keeping in contact with friends, whether new or old.

He is survived by his brother, Robert; his children: Michael (Sara) Loftus, Thomas K. (Laureen) Loftus, Daniel (Molly) Loftus, Timothy (Sandi) Loftus ;and his beloved grandchildren: Stephanie, Kyle (Taylor), Larissa, Finnea, Nora, Connor, Mimi and Ryan Loftus.

Anyone who knew Tom knew that more than anything he loved and missed his beautiful wife, Charlene, who preceded him in death in 2012. Tom is also preceded in death by his parents, James and Eileen Loftus; and his brother, Edward Loftus.

There will be a wake service at 9 a.m. and funeral Mass at 10 a.m. on Friday, May 20 at St. Edna’s Catholic Church, 2525 North Arlington Heights Road, Arlington Heights.

In lieu of flowers the family request that donations be made to the American Heart Association.
