Maryann Ohms of Scales Mound shared this photo of clouds that look like cotton swabs as the sun sets. It reminds us of what Charles M. Schultz wrote in The Complete Peanuts, Vol. 5: 1959-1960: ““Aren’t the clouds beautiful? They look like big balls of cotton. . .I could just lie here all day, and watch them drift by. . .If you use your imagination, you can see lots of things in the cloud formations. . .What do you think you see, Linus?” “Well, those clouds up there look like the map of the British Honduras on the Caribbean. . .That cloud up there looks a little like the profile of Thomas Eakins, the famous painter and sculptor. . .And that group of clouds over there gives me the impression of the stoning of Stephen. Packing baskets
The VFW Post 1304 of Stockton recently donated $500 to the Stockton Chamber to help with expenses and the Christmas decorations used annually in town. Ryan Bartell, post commander, and Kevin Schubert, member of the local post, presented the check to members of the Stockton Chamber Board on Wednesday Dec. 16. Representing the Chamber board, from left: Kim Scace, president; Mary Stayner, vice president; Sam VenHuizen, director; and Tom Wurster, director. The funds will be put to use this year and into next to continue to cover the expenses around decorating the chamber landmark, trees and the annual Christmas festivities with Santa.

ARC preschool donates to food pantry
Residents at Prairie Ridge of Galena recently participated in a tree decorating activity. This was done very safely with two to four people in the activities room at one time. Residents enjoyed decorating a tree to take back to their apartment all while listening to Christmas music. Clockwise, from top left: Babs Rosenthal, Vada Waites, Barb Hooper and Mary Zito.

Crossroads Community Church in Galena shared a living nativity on Saturday, Dec. 12. From left: Evan Tracey, Paul Connor, Casey Folks, shepherds; Jerry Longmore as Joseph; Keara Embry as the angel; Anna Walburg as Mary; Pastor Bill Longmore, Donald Steffan and Mike Callahan as the wise men. Ann Tracey and Melisa Hammer coordinated the event, Susan Steffan made all the costumes and Brad and Janelle Schumacher assisted.

Thank you cards were strewn across Krista Ginger’s dining room table from students at Galena Primary School and Galena Middle School. These cards will be delivered to healthcare workers in Galena on Dec. 9.
