Stockton High School psychology teacher Amy Hawley used her dog, Penny to demonstrate to students classical and operant conditioning. Classical conditioning and operant conditioning are both different forms of learning that are used in training animals. Classical conditioning uses stimulus and response, which is similar to teaching a dog tricks such a sit, down and roll over. Operant conditioning uses reinforcement to encourage the behavior. Telling Penny she is a “good girl” after she performs the trick increases the likelihood that Penny will repeat the behavior. Stockton student Maria Bender gives Penny a treat during Hawley’s class.

Hallie Tranel talked to Santa and Mrs. Claus at Hazel Green’s Recreation Park on Friday, Dec. 4. The Hazel Green Library organized the drive-thru visit from Santa. The library typically holds the event in the library, but due to COVID restrictions changed plans.

Students are currently creating another batch of blankets to be donated for the holidays.
