Senior Maia Kropp is this month’s Galena High School artist of the month. Kropp is showing a favorite piece of her artwork. The assignment was to do a painting, a close-up acrylic of a plant, that was inspired by the artist Georgia O’Keefe. Kropp focused on the leaves “and made them colorful.” The young artist says she likes to be creative. In her busy life, she says painting provides an escape. “It’s fun for me,” she adds.

Students in Stockton High School’s business class painted logos from 17 local companies on pumpkins with a note stating, “Thank you for being an asset to our community.” Inspecting four of the pumpkins are, from left, Olivia Keeffer, Ella Wackerlin and Maddie Harbach. Business instructor Lindsey Duerr noted, “My students had a great time doing this project and the businesses really enjoyed them.”

The Scales Mound High School class of 1962 held its class reunion, Sept. 21, at the Southside Hornet Pub & Grille.
