ARC preschoolers visit GHS greenhouse
On Wednesday, April 26 the River Ridge FFA Chapter completed their Agriculture in the Classroom program. FFA members, led by Cora Dittmar and Cora Ritchie, created a lesson plan and then taught elementary students about the dairy industry. As a part of the lesson the students had the opportunity to make homemade whip cream. The Illinois Agriculture in the Classroom sponsored the project through a grant that allowed the River Ridge FFA to purchase a book for each student to take home. Above: Cora Dittmar with her lesson.

On Friday, April 21, three students from Galena High School traveled to Bloomington/Normal to compete in the IHSA State Journalism Competition. Senior Sam Eaton competed in the Sports Writing Category. Senior Jenna Smith competed and brought home a second-place medal in Headline Writing and a fifth-place medal in Review Writing. Senior Kennedy Trautsch earned hardware in the Editorial Writing Category, coming home with the third-place medal. GHS students compete in journalism competition
On Thursday, April 20 in the Galena High School gymnasium, the Galena Area Chamber of Commerce hosted a job fair. For the first two hours, the job fair was open only to high school students, but the last three hours, it was open to the public. 17 businesses participated, bringing along information and applications for open positions. The businesses that attended were Apple Canyon Lake, Galena Territory Association, City of Galena, Jo-Carroll Energy, Chestnut Mountain Resort, Keller Williams-The Danielle Cline Group, Eagle Ridge Resort and Spa, Kreider Services, Fried Green Tomatoes, Mediacom, Furst Staffing, Midwest Senior Care Center, Galena Cellars Winery and Vineyard, Riverview Center, Galena Center for the Arts, The Country Experience, and The Workshop. Here, Stephanie Beck, representing the Galena Center for the Arts, passed out internship information to high schoolers Kallan Kropp, Dani Rae Hulscher and Xela Weber.
