21 new cases in JDC: Number is lowest weekly count in county since Sept. 7

GALENA–As of Monday, Jan. 4, Jo Daviess County reported 1,385 COVID cases since the spring of 2020. There were 7 new cases since Dec. 31, and 21 new cases since Dec. 28. This is the lowest weekly total for the county since Sept. 7 when 14 new cases were reported during that week. Approximately 1,320 of these cases have recovered. There have been 24 deaths in the county due to COVID since the start of the pandemic with no new deaths since last Monday.

According to the IDPH website, during the week of Dec. 20-26 the county has reported a test positivity of 6.1 percent.

Vaccination dates for Galena Stauss Senior Care Community in Galena are Jan. 11, Feb. 1 and Feb. 22.

As of Saturday, Jan. 2, the three highest areas in Jo Daviess County for COVID have been 414 cases in the 61036 zip code (Galena), an increase of three new cases; 257 cases in the 61085 zip code (Stockton), an increase of two new cases; and 228 cases in the 61025 zip code (East Dubuque), an increase of seven new cases.

Other zip code totals in Jo Daviess County are 140 in the 61087 zip code (Warren), 99 cases in the 61028 zip code (Elizabeth), 72 cases in the 61001 zip code (Apple River), 71 cases in the 61041 zip code (Hanover), 62 cases in the 61075 zip code (Scales Mound) and 18 cases in the 61059 zip code (Nora).

Stephenson County is reporting 3,848 cases and 48 deaths since the pandemic as of Sat. Jan. 2 and Carroll County is reporting 1,343 cases and 31 deaths since the start of the pandemic. The 61048 zip code (Lena) is reporting 314 cases and the 61044 zip code that include portions of rural Stockton and Kent are reporting 12 cases.

The Savanna zip code (61074) is reporting 323 cases while the 61053 zip code which includes Mount Carroll and portions of Pleasant Valley Township in Jo Daviess County is reporting 188 cases as of Jan. 2.

Grant County, Wis. has reported 4,141 cases as of Jan. 3, an increase of 64 cases since last week. There have been 77 deaths since the start of the pandemic, with no new deaths due to COVID reported since Dec. 27. Lafayette County, Wis. has reported 1,253 cases, an increase of 30 cases over the past week. There have been five deaths in Lafayette County, Wis. since the start of the pandemic.

The Wisconsin Department of Health Services releases their localized data based on the United States Census tracts. The census tract that includes Hazel Green and Kieler had 405 cases as of Jan. 3, an increase of seven cases since last Sunday. There have been six deaths in that area since the start of the pandemic. The census tract that includes Benton and Shullsburg has reported 183 cases of COVID-19 since the spring. The census tract that includes Gratiot and South Wayne, Wis. has reported 218 cases since the beginning of the pandemic.

Dubuque County, Iowa, has reported 10,709 positive cases of COVID-19 as of Jan. 3, an increase of 267 since last Sunday. The county is also reporting 139 deaths due to COVID, an increase of four since Dec. 27.
