COVID-19 numbers up, two additional deaths

GALENA–COVID-19 cases in Jo Daviess County continue to rise as the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) announced 80 new cases since last Monday.

Since Monday, Oct. 19, Jo Daviess County has had 171 cases reported. The total is now 591 cases since March.

Approximately 450 of those have recovered.

IDPH officials also reported two additional deaths in Jo Daviess County this week, bringing the total to nine since the pandemic began in March.

Jo Daviess County also remained on the state’s warning list for the third consecutive week. Dozens of other counties are on the list as well.

The county has returned to tier two measures, which includes restrictions for restaurants, bars, meetings, social events and gatherings and organized group recreational activities.

In addition, IDPH recommends the following actions be taken:

• Display prominent masking and distancing signage.

• Discourage non-essential travel to other states and international locations.

• Discourage groups greater than 4 individuals in ages 12 -17 from congregating outside of school. 

• Promote work from home when possible.
