GALENA–Jo Daviess County, along with the Illinois National Guard, will host a single dose Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 mass vaccination one-day clinic on Wednesday, April 7 at River Ridge School, 4141 Ill. 84 S, Hanover. Anyone over the age of 18 who lives or works in Jo Daviess County is eligible to register. Registration started April 2.

The National Guard vaccination clinics have been held throughout the state and were an important step for the county in getting a larger amount of the population vaccinated.

Last week, numbers from the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) had the county at the bottom quarter of the counties due to the lack of vaccine accessibility.

The timing of the increased vaccinations for the county is prudent. The rise in cases has continued over the past couple weeks from its low in March. The National Guard has been providing assistance to the state for mass vaccination locations. The National Guard had locations in Batavia, South Holland, Carbondale, Springfield, Tinley Park, Collinsville and Des Plaines last week.

The county is hopeful more of these mass vaccination clinics will be possible in the next few months. The Johnson & Johnson doses being provided are the first time that the single-dose vaccine has been provided to county residents.
