GALENA–There are several ways for people in Galena to help their neighbors and fellow residents during this challenging time.

Michelle Heurung from the Lamberson Guest House is accepting small amount gift cards in an envelope that she is then distributing to those in need. Heurung would like for donors to write their names on the outside of the envelope. Her mailbox is located on the side of her house, 113 S. Prospect St., by the Lamberson Guest House sign. The house is accessible from High and Washington streets.

Women and Friends Making a Difference is accepting monetary donations at Illinois Bank and Trust on Gear Street in Galena. The funds will be used to help families with utilities, rent and groceries. Donations can also be dropped off at 704 Park Ave., inside the mailbox.

Kimberly Thompson of the Grateful Gourmet is also accepting any donations from local restaurants and hotels that are closed and have pre-packaged food that would otherwise go to waste. Any local hotel or restaurant owners who wish to donate should contact Thompson at 815-291-4183.

Glee and Ken Bilderback, 310 Washington St., Galena, have turned their Little Free Library into a food pantry. Leave items and take what is needed. If there is not room in the box, leave items at the back door.

A Sunshine Box is located at the housing complex at 600 Gear St. Pre-packaged food, toiletries and children’s items are needed.
