On Sunday, Sept. 18th St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, Elizabeth celebrated the completion of its new solar array. Congregation President Elaine Klippert cut the ribbon and Eagle Point Solar CEO Jim Pullen presented a picture of the completed project with information about the array, a 17.22 kW DC system producing 23,097 kWh of electricity. This supplies 102 percent of the annual electricity usage of the church and parsonage. Projected first-year savings are $2,793. The estimated 25-year electric bill savings for the church is over $105,000. Over the array’s lifetime, the system will offset 437.73 tons of carbon dioxide. This is equivalent to recycling 1,532 tons of waste, displacing the annual carbon dioxide emissions from 85 homes, or planting 10,998 trees. Midwest Medical Center is planning a $34.5 million expansion project which will add 42,546 square feet of additional space to the hospital. This is an artist’s rendition of the hospital from the southeast and shows the current entrance on the front. The new south entrance will be used by those using physical, occupational and speech therapy as well as for the medical and behavioral health clinics and infusion.
