IMT Insurance and Jo Daviess Mutual recently presented the City of Galena with a $2,500 grant for the city’s dog park. Earlier in 2022, IMT and Jo Daviess Mutual granted the city $500 for the same project. Construction crews were busy completing all their appointed tasks last week for the Spring Street construction project through Galena last week. On Wednesday, Nov. 30., a crew from Selco began picking up traffic signs and barriers which had limited the highway to one-way traffic since last spring. Two-way traffic started along U.S. 20 by late morning. Crews then dedicated their efforts to repainting South Bench Street next to Illinois Bank & Trust and Gear Street so those roads could handle two-way traffic. Crews were able to complete the project’s first phase, according to Kristophere Owens, communications outreach liaison with the Illinois Department of transportation. Work will start again next spring when weather permits. The project should be completed by fall 2024.
U.S. 20 reopens to two-way traffic

There were 48 vendors and many customers from all over the area. The Holiday Market is in conjunction with the Territory Farmers Market and is sponsored by the Greenspace Advisory Group of The Galena Territory Association, Inc. This volunteer group helps oversee the preservation and maintenance of the GTA’s 1,900 acres of common grounds, trails, and natural areas located in The Galena Territory. Natural Resources Coordinator Emily Lubcke is chair of the group.
